CREATE Change

Our 2024-2025 initiative is C.R.E.A.T.E. Change impacted 242 children. Our goal this year is to empower each program attendee to understand that they are special, they are important and they can create a successful future for themselves! The acronym stands for Confidence, Responsibility, Education, Art, Talents, and Exercise.

Here is an overview of the classes we were able to teach this summer:

The students visited KWC and Brescia University. WKU-Owensboro and OCTC were able to come speak directly to them at the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club.
Teen College Exploration
Our Teen College Exploration Class had 36 children and allowed them to visit schools, speak with schools at the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club and really understand the aspects of what each college offers and what it will take to make it there one day. Each child was able to have a “decision day” in which they met with a volunteer to discuss their options and then select a college that they would like to attend in the future. Along with this decision came a plan they could outline and they participated in writing down steps that they could take today to reach their goals in the future.

Each child created a plan for their future as well as steps they can take now to accomplish their goals!

One activity the children competed in a relay race against our volunteers.
Healthy Habits
Healthy Habits: We had 182 children complete this class and learn about how to SWAP out bad habits for better ones. Each child participated in a learning lesson during the classes, were a part of an activity and also received a snack for the day.

Each child that completed the class received a certificate and signed a pledge to continue their healthy habits as the school year begins!

One aThe highlight of this class was when the children were able to design their own t-shirts!
Creative Arts
Our art class gave 24 children the opportunity to showcase their creativity and learn about how even if their art, personalities and attributes are different we are all special in our own ways.

The children loved showing off their creativity!
Some of the children even wore their shirts when they picked out their shoes!
"What I Like About Me"
The staple of all our programs is our "what I like about me" page. Each class we make sure the children learn of ways they are unique, they are special and they are important. We make sure they identify attributes and traits to write down and keep with them so they can view them in the future and lift them up!

Overall the children identified almost 1000 total things they liked about themselves this summer!
